The Polycrisis: A Crisis of False Divisions
Hint: They’re ALL false!
May 19, 2025
All living things and planetary systems are inextricably interconnected. You cannot subdivide the planet and its inhabitants by imposing artificial boundaries and then set the segmented portions against each other and expect a tolerable outcome.
The human species has evolved into a hegemonic force with the power to shape the planet according to its will, despite a collective wisdom that has yet to catch up.
Humanity will either sew the seeds of its own destruction or it will ascend to a level of consciousness to fulfill its promise as both a responsible steward and humble subordinate to the sacred harmony. The watershed moment will happen much sooner than you think.
There is no middle ground. There is no having it both ways.
Not when we are facing global temperatures that are rising unsustainably, crucial oceanic current cycles that are on the verge of collapse, wildlife being lost at a rate exceeding every other mass extinction in the planet’s history, deforestation and soil degradation reaching levels of irreversibility, glaciers and ice sheets melting rapidly, oceans acidifying, the coral reefs dying, pollinators vanishing, “Forever Chemicals” in everything, extreme weather events increasing and intensifying—all while the emergence of deadly zoonotic viruses continues to rise, disinformation weaponized, the AI takeover happening before our eyes, and nuclear arsenals having never been safely minimized.
This is all driven by human activity and our ever-relentless race to the top which is really a race to the bottom where everybody wins the same prize: total annihilation.
But humanity cannot go back because humanity has gone too far already. You either eradicate the cancer or you consign the host to its demise. You either have a Revolution of Consciousness or a toast to the End of Us.
And what does the Consciousness Revolution look like? Considering the boundless potential of human creativity, it could take on a vast number of forms. But I would imagine that transcendence would ultimately have to be born of a Pure Love where all attachments to ego-driven identifications are dissolved.
At a minimum, the shared doctrine of this new universalist spirituality would have to be based on a framework of:
Everything else be damned.
This is why the future cannot be dictated by the schemers, the conquerors and the zero-sum head-knockers.
If humanity has any chance at all, it will elevate its peacemakers, healers and big-picture dreamers.
And oh, by the way, the future is here already.
